Winning and losing at Poker

Poker is a very skilled game with two or more players.  You have to be able to bluff your apponents into thinking you have a better hand than you have in order to win the bets and ultimately the game.

The rush you feel when one by one the players fold and you are still in the game, will you be the last player standing?, then suddenly the last player bar yourself folds and you win.  The dealer collects all bets in and then passes your winnings over to you.  The sound of the chips on the table, the feel of them in your hand there is no other feeling like it.

Seeing the faces of the jealous losers is enough to put a smile on your face but you cant, you have to stay calm and collected but the urge to jump up and down and shout out loud is overwhelming.

Losing, well that is another feeling all together.  You feel rotten to the pit of your stomach.  Why did you place that last bet, why didnt you fold earlier, there are so many things that go through your head but in the end all you can do is put a brave face on and pretend that you are happy for the winner because no-one likes a sore loser.  But the knowledge that you will be going home on the bus rather than a taxi because you have bet practically all the money you came with because you knew you couldnt possibly lose stings all nerves in your body.

And yet the fact that you have lost wont stop you from going back and trying again there is the old saying 'maybe next time'.
